The following review was written by Karli D. on the book Grace House by Lee Kamminga (Jenison, MI: Reformed Free Publishing, 2025). The version below has been lightly edited for grammar and clarity.

Grace House is a very good book. I would recommend it to anyone because it shows us what a lot of us do not see in our own lives. Kashvi, the main character, was a Hindu but was brought to the faith by those at the Karunai House. Her friends, Sarina and Nalayani, were some of those. Even though they were very different from each other, they helped Kashvi grow in her faith, and they all leaned on each other through their difficult journeys in life. What I think is amazing about this book is that after all that Kashvi had gone through with the things that went on at home and leaving her mother, she was willing to go and learn about God and had the strength to trust in Him. It was very hard for her to trust in God, but God gave her the strength to do it.

I love the writing style that Lee Kamminga used because, through it, I was able to learn new words. And I feel that it gave the story deeper meaning because it connected with people in India through their language, instead of just telling the story as [English] books would. The life of a Christian was very incorporated in the story, too, which I appreciated because there are not many books like that anymore. I love how the story was written in a very easy-to-understand manner and was able to follow it very well, which made it even more enjoyable to read. And there were always important and exciting parts so that I never got bored.

When I read the book, I was pricked in my heart by the characters' joy in reading the Bible and praying. When they prayed, it was not like it was a chore, but it was a blessing to them. We, as children of God, need to remember that it is a blessing because we get so caught up in the motions that we aren't even thinking about how wonderful God is in giving us prayer and the gift of the Bible. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). We never know if the Bible will be taken from us, so we must cherish the times that we spend in Scripture and never take it for granted.

I am very thankful that I chose to read this book. I learned many new things from it. I hope to read it many more times, and I hope that others will read it too. Because even though it is a [fictional] book, we as God's people can take many beneficial lessons from it and learn new things. I hope that you will appreciate the book Grace House as much as I did.
