READ KNOW GROW“Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine” 1 Timothy 4:13. #ReadRFPAbooks “In his inscrutable wisdom God determined from all eternity that he would be revealed to his people through the Bible, his written revelation, the entirety of which we new dispensation believers now have in our hands. And the Bible as a written revelation must be read. God could have revealed himself savingly in Jesus Christ through some other means, but he determined that he...

“The just shall live by faith.”—Romans 1:7 Righteous, or just, by faith! This is indeed the heart of the gospel. The apostle is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ because it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Imagine if this gospel were merely a general, well-meaning offer of salvation! Imagine if a sinner must contribute something to his salvation! Imagine if the love of God...

"...[Solomon] says, '…yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him' (v. 12). The fear of God is the beginning and true foundation of wisdom. It is the way of blessing. He repeats the idea: there is the person, the God-fearer, and there is his walking by faith in true wisdom fearing before God. By implication he turns from the way of evil to walk by faith in childlike obedience. For he...

“And if by grace, then it is no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.” —Romans 11:6 What do you desire? To be saved by grace or by works? That is the question. Shakespeare would say: To be or not to be, that is the question. And it fits here too. To be or not to be in the arms of God unto...

"Shall we be afraid for Christ’s church or for ourselves personally in this final hour? Fear not, little children of our heavenly Father, because this final hour belongs to him. The Father has closely connected this hour to the central hour on his clock of the crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of Christ our Lord. The hours on his clock, even the last moments of the final hour with all of its darkness and persecution for the church, are all the hours...

Read MoreSpiritual Disciplines of the Christian Life: Reading
By : Reformed Free Publishing Association
The Bible commends reading. Reading is a discipline of the Christian life.
Reading as a spiritual discipline is not the same as reading in general. Certainly, reading books on history, science, wars, animals, and economics (the list goes on) is to be recommended, providing they are wholesome. But reading as a spiritual discipline is more focused on explicitly Christian literature, Reformed literature—in short, biblical literature: the Standard Bearer, Beacon Lights, Reformed Free Publishing Association (RFPA) publications, and so many other books and periodicals that promote our growth in godliness. Of course, we read the Bible, too, and that ought to be our main book—but the reading of scripture has been treated in past articles on devotions.
Why do we read? Consider three reasons...
Also, a few reminders about reading are in order...

Thanksgiving does, indeed, imply joy and gladness of heart, but not in the abundance of earthly things, but in God who is really GOD, the Lord of all, who reigneth in the heavens above and on the earth beneath, who doeth all things well; who is, moreover, the God of our salvation in Christ Jesus our Lord, who forgiveth all our iniquities, who healeth all our diseases, and from whose fatherly hand we receive all things, rain and drought, fruitful and...
