In the previous edition, Calvin's treatise was divided into two parts according to the subject matter. This edition of Calvin's Calvinism puts the related topics of predestination and providence together, the way Calvin himself addressed them in his original.
 
Calvin's Calvinism features brief historical introductions to the treatise and to Calvin's replies to a former friend who wrote against this treatise. These replies are also included in this edition.

Highly recommended for any lover of Calvin, and especially for those interested in the 'Free Offer' controversy!!

Read this, and you will be convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that John Calvin repudiated with all his being the heresies of a love of God for the reprobate and a desire to save them. Perhaps that is the reason why this book is not commonly available in English (or any other language). The two essays by Calvin which comprise this book are his most clear and detailed exposition on the doctrine of predestination and present his most consistent treatment of the matter. He reveals an unwavering and uncompromising love and fear of the Sovereign Lord who doth in heaven and in earth whatsoever He pleases, and to whom no man can say "what doest thou". Calvin shows that the idea of 'free will' is not a mild doctrinal error but an attack on the very being of God. As such, those who militantly promote 'free will' are heretics which Calvin attacks as such, since these heretics are attacking the very essence of God. He explains all the texts used by both the Arminians and modern 'Calvinists' (i.e. those who believe God loves and wants to save 'in some sense' the reprobate) such that there remains no love of God for the reprobate. Though perhaps some ideas of Calvin seem not 100% correct, overall this is an excellent defense of 'Calvinism' by the one after whom it is named, and he of course shows that this is no other than the plain, simple and yet profound teaching of Scripture. Highly recommended for any lover of Calvin, and especially for those interested in the 'Free Offer' controversy!

It...After having subscribed to a well known and popular monthly magazine that for the most part faithfully operated under the Puritan and Reformed banner I was compelled recently to cancel my decades long subscription. The magazine began to publish editorials that indicated a change of direction. It appeared to identify more with liberal trends rather than holding its ground as the conservative banner bearer it had been for many years. That put me on a search for a publication that was thoroughly Reformed and unlikely to weaken as many of the once faithful are now doing. That was when I discovered The Standard Bearer. I didn’t know the publication existed until recently but I have had a number of Herman Hoeksema books in my library for many years now and have turned to them frequently as they have always been a valuable source of reliable information. I’m glad I found The Standard Bearer and I plan on being a subscriber for many years to come!

Can't Keep it on the Shelf
I keep giving copies away. Excellent factual summaries of so many heroes of the faith over the many centuries. I notice Monergism.com uses the summaries for some of their book reprints. Vermigli for example. This is more of a why don't you have a copy type of review. H. Hanko follows the Gospel...I keep giving copies away. I had recently finished a deep dive into the letter to the Romans when I happened across this title. I purchased it and it has provided insight and perspective to portions I had read many times. When I am tempted to lose my temper or think of or speak unkindly to someone, I hear in my mind, "Reckon yourself dead to sin but alive unto God." The devotional style of this commentary has been so helpful in applying these great truths to my every day living. I am grateful to have come across this book.
